I've been doing pumpkins every year for the last 5 years or so. I started carving to enter a contest but that contest hasn't happened for the past couple of years, so I'm happy to be able to enter this in something! Did DBZ this year since I was watching it a bunch last month when I came up with the concept.

I did this pumpkin last week so hopefully taking a picture of the currently rotting version with my username will suffice, lol:

Admittedly, this terrible date was probably just as much my fault as his. Our moms are friends and knew that we had a lot in common and wanted to play match-maker. The idea was to go on sort of a 'double date' with our moms, which is definitely weird but we both got along well with our parents so I figured as long as we're both okay with it...
We picked up some food and the four of us were going to eat it in the park. We picked up some food for my step-dad as well to eat, you know, at home, but he didn't seem to see the problem with eating it with us while he interviewed my date. He thankfully left after eating, but my date didn't say a word the entire time. I spent most of the date talking to his mother who was trying the get us to talk.
Strange enough, he told his mother to tell my mother (great communication) later that he did want to see me again, but I should know that he already has a girlfriend and he was just looking for someone to "have fun with" for the summer. Can't say I was having much fun in the first place, so that would be a "no".

Tell us your worst date stories. (Don’t worry, we all have them.)

New Haruhi character singles are out! I want to badly to romanize and translate them all right now...

But I have a mountain of Statistics homework, and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days that came out here yesterday OMG!!

...So it might be a while. But I have a surprisingly large amount of free time tomorrow so maybe I'll do them then (Assuming someone else on AL doesn't do them first in which case I probably won't bother, except for Yuki's and maybe Haruhi's themes.)

I just can't wait for Kyon and Koizumi's character singles in October!!

What was the most memorable concert you ever attended? What made it so magical?

The Green Day concert I went to this August, for sure. Compared to the other bands I've seen in concert, these guys are so much more on base with the audience, and they're really there to put on a show, not just play through their set list. Also, it helps that they're just about my favorite band ever. :D

I went to a GD concert 4 years ago too, but this time I was up dangerously close (since I'm so tiny there's always the fear of getting squished!) and they even played my favorite song, JAR, which made me ridiculously happy even though Billie Joe forgot the lyrics. XD

Far too busy with work and school, I'm going to talk about a thing or two that is getting me through my day.

1. Billie Joe's hair. Not in an "OMG I love her hair!" way, but an "OMG I WANNA TOUCH IT" way. It's just so fluffy-looking! The 21 Guns music video is the best example, but his hair is definitely that fluffy in real life. During the concert I went to, I kept thinking, "What's with this? I never cared much for him before, but all of a sudden..." It's the hair!

2. Daisuke Ono's voice. This has lessened a bit since school started again and I no longer have ridiculous amounts of time to waste playing Suzumiya Haruhi no Tomadoi, but I've become addicted to Magaare Spectacle.

3. Shoujo anime. I don't have time to read all the countless volumes of bad shoujo manga out there, but there's so little romantic shoujo anime! I just got the box set of Kare Kano and am having a blast with it.

4. Having a Sunday off. This is the first Sunday I haven't worked since Easter! (Not something I think about regularly, since it was a surprise to find out last night, but I felt the need to say it)

Semi-unrelated, but it seems Pretz have been released here in the states as... Pringles Stix?? I tried some the other day, and sure enough, they look and taste exactly like Pretz! It's strange, but I'm glad I have a much cheaper alternative to buying delicious Pretz.

So my attention right now is divided between the 24 anime DVDs I got from rightstuf.com's clearance sale, KH2 Final Mix+, and Suzumiya Haruhi no Tomadoi. So that leaves my current to-watch list at:
Air vol 4
Pani Poni Dash vols 3-6
Welcome to the NHK vols 2-5
Trigun vols 1-6
Ichigo Mashimaro 1-3

I may or many not watch Ichigo Mashimaro anytime soon, since I've seen it before in fansubs and borrowing from the library, but I enjoyed it enough I thought I'd buy it since it was on sale (and needed just a few more DVDs to make 24. (I got a Menchi plush from Excel Saga for my 25th item, since they didn't have NHK vol 6.)

But I am absolutely addicted to Tomadoi. It's completely ridiculous. I've played through the game once and accomplished pretty much nothing. I got no special CG pics and got stuck in Haruhi's time loop. But I can't. stop. playing. Why? Because Kouizumi's eyes are just so damn pretty. I'm not joking. Hell, I don't even care much for Kouizumi in the series, but, damn, he's really, really pretty in this game. And Daisuke Ono knows just how to do that "dating visual novel" voice somehow. Gah. (I take back my 'gay' comment a few posts ago. Actually, I hadn't thought of it until now, but I spending 50% of my spare time playing this stupid game, and the other half watching Air. Maybe I'm having an Ono overload.)

At any rate, this is why I'm a sucker for visual novels. Everyone's drawn so pretty. And when one of them is actually a boy, which despite what anyone might think is my preference, I really can't stop playing. And here I was just hoping to get a couple suggestively-gay CGIs to show my yaoi-obsessed friend.

It's probably a good thing Kouizumi's an option in this game, since if it was just the girls, I wouldn't be able to choose between Haruhi and Yuki. I like them both equally. @.@

Speaking of Haruhi, I have decided that I think Endless Eight is fucking awesome. And not just for Kouizumi's speedo.

Jul. 25th, 2009 @ 07:55 pm Kingdom Hearts Final Mix
I finally got around to modding my PS2 and getting the final mix games! I've finished the first one and just started on the second. I thought I'd talk about some of my impressions on the two.

Kingdom Hearts Final Mix
- Proud mode is friggin hard. I'm not sure how different it is from the NA releases' Expert Mode, though. Basically, the only difference is that you receive double damage from enemies. Unfortunately, Donald and Goofy seem to receive double damage too but don't get any smarter, so that makes them useless. I really feel like Proud Mode on this game is a load of fake difficulty, but I'm sure the rest of the gaming community would just tell me I suck. ^^;
- You can skip cutscenes you've already seen, but not like in KH2 on where you can hit start -> skip scene. You can only skip scenes before bosses if you have to fight them over, and the option to do so comes up right before you fight them. It seems the game can only save one of these instances, though, because I left Atlantica to play Halloween Town and when I came back to fight Ursula again I had to watch the cutscene again.
- The controls are backwards from the NA version! Well, I assume this is the case with all Japanese versions but it took me by surprise. I don't know why I never thought of it, since I knew the controls between our versions of Final Fantasy were reversed. This also explains why I felt like the DS controls on 358/2 Days felt 'counter-intuitive' and backwards from what I was used to.

I unfortionately haven't gotten to fight Xemnas yet, because I can't find any info online on how to unlock him! I've heard that the portal appears after you beat Malificent (obviously not the case), after you get all the dalmatians and seal all the worlds (did so, no portal), and various other things. I've met all the requirements for the first secret ending, but I can't get the second without defeating Sephiroth and Xemnas. :(

The dialogue for the game in in English with Japanese subtitles and every other aspect is in Japanese. I noticed, however, that the English dialogue was in places VERY different from the Japanese subtitles. This is because they just used the dialogue from the English version and the subtitles from the Japanese version. It's kind of disappointing this way, like watching "dubtitled" anime. :(

They say you learn something every day. Here's what I learned:
If it were easy to pirate video games, game makers would go out of business.

Don't get me wrong, I dislike pirating games anyway because I'm a collector and would like to have the nice shiny boxes on my shelf. But there comes a time in a gamers my life when I... finally finish Kingdom Hearts games and then get a huge urge to play certain other Kingdom Hearts games that were only released in Japan. And though I have every plan to pay actual money for them, I really would rather not pay for modchips and such on top of the exorbitant prices one has to pay for imported games. (I know, this falls heavily under the "life is not fair, get over it" category of complaints)

There is a certain method of PS2 modding involving memory card save files, which naturally sounded too good to be true, but I'll never know because as it turns out, my version of AR MAX is too old and doesn't support USB thumb drives. So that leaves me with two options: buy a new version of AR or get Swap magic. Swap magic is guranteed to work, but I keep reading about how it messes up laser allignment and such rather quickly. the AR MAX is guaranteed not to break my PS2, but there's no guarantee that the method will work and I won't know until after I buy it. :/

I'm rather leaning toward Swap magic because I really don't want to have to waste more money after paying for the games themselves. At any rate, my PS2 is crapping out anyway and I honestly don't think Swap magic will kill it any quicker than it would already die. (My PS2 stopped playing PS1 games exactly one month after the warranty expired. I swear they put self-destruct mechanisms in those things to sell more consoles.) Either that, or, the best option, I find something better to do for the next 3 months since 385/2 Days will be out in America at the end of September.

...Except now that I've realized it's 3 whole months until the release, I'm thinking "I could totally replay all the other games in that time." ;-;

Also, this money should really, really be going towards webhosting, should it not? The paycheck I get in a few days should be just enough to cover both... but I need new shoes. Curses, I am actually trying to decide between Kingdom Hearts and the health of my back.

Do you think animals have a sense of humor?

I think that depends on your definition of a sense of humor.
My cat likes to tease our dog (who likes to chase the cat but is afraid of going down stairs) by sitting on the first step and watching the dog's reaction. Also, our parrot has learned how to open the cookie jar and get cookies for himself out of it, and usually he takes one bite out of it and drops it on the floor. The dog, of course, has learned that the sound of the cookie jar opening usually means she's going to get a cookie off the floor, (classical conditioning much?) but lately, the parrot has taken to trying to drop the lid of the cookie jar onto the poor dog's head while she's trying to eat the cookie on the floor.

Both of these cases would be described as 'teasing', which one would normally attribute to a sick sense of humor, right? If anything, animals clearly get entertainment from watching others in distress, just like we often do.

So I think I found a good place to get hosting, but I have to pay for a year up front, which sucks. I get %50 off for the first year, so that's just $50 up front but next year that's $100 and ouch, I'm kind of nervous about having to pay that much all at once when I don't know what kind of living situation or anything I'll have this time next year. I also have to register a domain name, and I don't want to get one I'll hate... But I don't think I can put this off much longer either, because It's really not good to have my site hosted somewhere that not only gets hacked, but shares space with people that don't do anything about it.
